Movie Review - Soul Surfer

My husband and I are celebrating our 12th anniversary this month and to celebrate, we took advantage of my mother being in town to have a date night. We went to see the movie Soul Surfer. Its the story of a young girl who is attacked by a shark and loses her arm. It chronicles her life both before and after the attack. She finds God and renews her faith after the attack. Its a very inspiring story. That said, I haven't cried that much during a movie in years! My husband even cried. Its a wonderful movie with a great message, but be prepared to cry buckets.

Letters to Juliet Movie Review

Several of my friends and I went to see this movie over the weekend. My mother saw it just after it came out and absolutely LOVED it. She hates just about all movies, so I just had to go. I have to say though that I'm somewhat biased because I love sappy romance stories, and I'm a big Amanda Seyfried fan. But, regardless of all that, we all loved the movie. Who doesn't love happy endings, right? My mother said that it did make her cry at all, but sappy me cried quite a bit. Be prepared and bring tissues. This is one of those movies that I will most likely add to my movie collection when it comes out on DVD.

If you haven't seen the trailer yet, you can check it out here.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid Movie Review

Can I just say how much I enjoyed this movie? Having never read or even really heard of this book series, I went to this movie with absolutely no idea what it would be about. My daughter had her very first sleepover at a friends house, and the mom (a good friend of mine) suggested that the girls might enjoy going to see this moving the following day. I decided to take the twins and tag along. As a homeschooler, I now seriously doubt any of my children will EVER want to enter middle school. This movie is so funny, albeit somewhat gross in parts. My twins are just 6 and they laughed throughout the entire movie. Basically, its a lighthearted look at family life and the joys of middle school. As a bonus, one of my twins has decided that he now wants to read the book series. I'm not overly strict about movies in general, as long as they keep the language, topics, and nudity out of it, I'm good. This one didn't have anything in it to make me worry. In fact, I think we might have to purchase it on DVD when it's released.

Percy Jackson & the Olympians, The Lightning Thief

I was introduced to the Percy Jackson series through my 11 year old niece. She's a huge Harry Potter fan, as is my husband, and she thought he might enjoy this series as well. Well, suffice it to say that I promptly purchased the first book in the series for him, but I ended up getting hooked myself. Although these books aren't exactly in the same league as Harry Potter, they are excellent in and of themselves. I enjoy Greek mythology, and these books don't disappoint. I quickly read the rest of the books in the series, and would love to read more. They combine an interesting story plot with tons of Greek myths, and a hefty dose of action. If you have a child that likes fantasy types of books, they will probably love this series.

We also went as a family this weekend to see the movie which was just released. I have to say that although I enjoyed the movie, I probably would have enjoyed it more if I wasn't comparing it to the book the entire time. I was rather disappointed in the scenes that were left out or completely changed from the book. While Harry Potter never fails to amaze me at how close they are to the book, this movie did just the opposite. I still enjoyed the movie, but I wish they had done a better job of keeping it true to the book. All of the kids enjoyed the movie though, so all in all I would recommend it.
